History:
This is a movie with a strange history, somewhat similar to the story it tells. It was shot on video in Berlin long before it was completed, using rudimentary means. The director had not been able to rent the Arri 16 camera he wanted to use, as he did not have an official qualification as a cameraman at the time. Being stigmatized as “non-professional,” the film remained in the director’s drawers for many years in its initial edit until he finally recognized its worth and decided to bring it back to life.
In 2022, he decided to retrieve the rushes and restore them using artificial intelligence while retaining the film’s “risen from the ashes” quality. He also departed from Messiaen’s original music due to the licensing costs which would occur, opting for a more modern score composed by Katya Sourikova, which is now part of the film.
